Alumni Spotlight: Bharat Koripella

This month, I interviewed Bharat Koripella, who is a former planning team member of Detroit Partnership; he also served as a Finance Director with this organization. In this interview, he shares important insights on his time at Michigan and in DP specifically, as well as the impacts of his time on the Planning Team on his current professional experiences in healthcare consulting in Chicago. Below are the questions we discussed:

How do you remember your time as a student at Michigan?

I loved the opportunity I had to get involved with extracurricular activities that helped me gain a lot of skills outside of the classroom setting and made my college experience richer as a whole.

What have you been up to post-grad?

Working in healthcare consulting in Chicago.

How much does Detroit Partnership influence your life now?

A lot of the skills I learned during my time in leadership, such as communicating effectively and coming up with creative solutions to problems have been helpful in my job postgrad.

What is your main takeaway from the Detroit Partnership?

The emphasis placed on service learning and intentional reflection has made me more aware of where I’m situated in the systems I’m a part of and helped me better understand the kind of work I want to do in the future.

How do you take what you learned from DP and apply it in your life now?

I work in healthcare currently and being a part of the planning team and learning from the speakers we’ve brought in has helped me contextualize some of the work that needs to be done in the space.
